This project playfully reinterprets religious elements into programmatic features to transform this small space within a grade 2 listed church in London, England, into a heavenly retreat.

 

Materials and colours are introduced to enhance spatial characteristics, such as the brass inlay pattern set within the porcelain floor tiles that seamlessly transitions from the interior space to the exterior terrace – connecting the two realms.

 

Rooms, fixtures, storage and utilities are all incorporated within the birch timber joinery to complement the church’s warm sandstone structure while simultaneously allowing for the volume within the church to remain intimately dramatic.
